A link in the floriculture chain
A strong floriculture chain can only be created if the links contact and reinforce each other. The most concrete expression of this is the creation of Greenports: Horticultural locations of national significance, where all links and supporting businesses are located. The Netherlands has five such Greenports. There are FloraHolland locations at four of them. Greenports promote cooperation and also offer an excellent base for lobbying. e.g., for better accessibility and more space. After all, the Greenports are a significant factor nationally. Their regional presence enables them to put the interests of the sector in the spotlight; many infrastructure decisions are made at local and provincial levels.
Representing the sector’s interests
FloraHolland naturally fulfils its role in representing interests, not only on behalf of the Greenports. FloraHolland works in other ways to achieve a strong floriculture sector. This includes setting up cooperative processes reinforcing the relationship between agrarian education and the horticulture business. It also does so by representing the interests of its members at the local, regional, national and European levels. FloraHolland is continually in discussions with policymakers, politicians and administrators regarding issues such as sustainability, mobility, use of space and education. FloraHolland is also actively involved in developing chain-wide solutions in areas such as logistics, e-business and entrepreneurship.
