Sea freight transport

The ever-increasing price of oil and consequent rise in air transportation costs have made many growers and buyers interested in sea freight transport of floricultural products.
Decorative greenery has been shipped by sea for some time (ledervaren, Salal, Ruscus, Safari). For other products, there is too little knowledge available to guarantee the success of sea transport, especially if the trip takes longer than two weeks. Together with its partners, FloraHolland invests in gaining further know-how in the area of sea transport for floricultural products, and in trial runs which may lead to establishing protocols for each product group.
