Product Quality Knowledge Centre

As an entrepreneur, you deal with the quality of your product daily. A good product sets you apart in the market. Uniformity, leaf quality, flower size or flower color are clearly visible to you and your clients. However, this is not true of internal quality and shelf life. How long will the consumer hold on to the flowers? How fresh are they after transport? Are they free of botrytis? Do you want to be distinctive in this area as well? Offer your clients more certainty? Then get to know the Product Quality Knowledge Centre.

Three locations
The Product Quality Knowledge Centre has research facilities at three locations (Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Rijnsburg) and a laboratory to analyze pre-treatment. Research is objective; we are ISO-certified and work according to VBN research standards.

Information and advice on shelf life
The Product Quality Knowledge Centre has a great deal of information and knowledge on post-harvest quality and shelf life, based on its own research and that of others. The specialists at the Product Quality Knowledge Centre can help you understand the quality of your products and advise you on maintaining and improving shelf life. Do you have questions about proper post-harvest treatment, packaging, temperature and relative humidity during transport, or the product’s sensitivity to ethylene? The Product Quality Knowledge Centre is ready to provide advice and action.

Shelf-life test/test subscription
Testing your product provides an insight into its quality. You can use the test results to promote your product, make adjustments in growing or the post-harvest stage or in selecting the product range you want. On request, we can provide an information panel for the research, stating your product and business name. Anonymous research is also an option.
You can have your product tested once or regularly at different times in the season. To do so, you can take out a test subscription with us. You determine the type of subscription: the testing frequency and cultivars to be tested. You also select the sale simulation that best suits your sales market and the content of the vase. You can select a simple basic report or add the information and photos you want. Test results can also be viewed online. A subscription can be obtained individually or as a group (e.g., a growers’ association).

Online test results
Test results can be viewed online. This requires requesting log-in information from the Knowledge Centre for the location in question.

Aalsmeer (online tests)
General information is freely accessible through My Aalsmeer. Detailed test results are exclusively accessible for suppliers participating in the ‘Tested for Durability’ program and buyers with a subscription to Test Centre Online.

Naaldwijk and Rijnsburg (FlorEsearch)
FlorEsearch is the FloraHolland service that allows growers and/or buyers to monitor the progress and results of their shelf life tests on the Internet, anywhere worldwide, including color photos. All your historical test results are also accessible and presented in an organized manner. You may opt to have your clients access the test results to allow them to judge your product’s quality. Growers’ associations or other groups of growers may use FlorEsearch to compare and exchange results among one another. Curious? A demo is available, illustrating the options that FlorEsearch provides. General information is freely available at
